Installing WordPress

Installing WordPress is a straightforward process, but it requires a few steps to get everything set up properly. Below is a simple guide to help you through it.

Installation via FTP

Download WordPress: Start by downloading the latest version of WordPress from wordpress.org.
Unzip the Files: Once downloaded, unzip the file to access the WordPress folder.
Connect to Your Server: Use an FTP client like FileZilla to connect to your web server. You’ll need your FTP or SFTP credentials, which are usually provided by your hosting provider.
Upload WordPress: Navigate to the directory where you want to install WordPress (usually the root directory or a subfolder). Upload all the files from the unzipped WordPress folder to this directory.
Create a Database: Log in to your hosting control panel and create a new MySQL or MariaDB database and user. Make sure to note down the database name, username, password and the host server address.
Configure WordPress (via web): Go to the URL where you want to install WordPress in your browser. You will be asked to enter the credentials to your database.
Configure WordPress (via FTP): If you prefer configuring WordPress via FTP, you have the option as well. Locate the wp-config-sample.php file. It will be in the root directory of WordPress. Copy the wp-config-sample.php and rename it to wp-config.php. Open it in a text editor and fill in your database details. Then save the file and continue to the URL of your website.

Set up the website information: The WordPress is now successfully installed. The next step is to enter the website's name and credentials for the admin user.

SSL Certificate

Having an SSL certificate is crucial for security and trust. Here’s how to handle it:

Automatic SSL: Many hosting providers offer free SSL certificates through services like Let's Encrypt. Check if your host provides this and enable it through your control panel.
Manual SSL Setup: If your host doesn’t offer automatic SSL, you can manually set it up:
- Purchase an SSL Certificate: Buy one from a trusted Certificate Authority (CA) like Comodo or Symantec.
- Generate a CSR: In your hosting control panel, generate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) and submit it to your CA.
- Install the Certificate: Once issued, install the SSL certificate on your server. Your hosting provider should have specific instructions for this.
Update WordPress URLs: After setting up SSL, update your WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) from http to https in the WordPress settings.

Remember, the SSL setup might take a bit longer, so be patient. Once everything is in place, your WordPress site will be secure and ready for visitors.
